Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
At Names Tattoo Studio Lisbon, we believe that the art doesn’t end when the needle stops. Proper care and clear communication are essential to preserving the quality of your custom tattoo design. Below are the answers to our most frequently asked questions.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
Typically, the initial healing process takes 2–3 weeks. However, deeper skin regeneration can take up to a month. During this time, it is vital to follow the instructions provided by your tattoo artist to ensure the longevity of the ink.
When should I remove the protective film (Second Skin)?
You should remove the protective bandage on the third day after your tattoo session. This allows the skin to begin its natural breathing and recovery phase.
What should I do if the protective film comes off early?
Do not panic. Gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild soap, pat it dry with a clean paper towel, and apply a thin layer of moisturizer or shea butter. Continue with your standard tattoo aftercare routine from that point forward.
Can I exercise or go to the gym after getting a tattoo?
We recommend limiting intense physical activity for the first 7–10 days. Sweat and friction can irritate the wound and affect the healing of fine line or single needle tattoos.
What are the main restrictions during the healing period?
For the first 7–10 days, you must avoid:
Gyms and strenuous sports.
Saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs.
Swimming pools and ocean water.
Direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
Pro Tip: Always use high-SPF sunscreen once the tattoo is healed to prevent fading.
How do I moisturise my new tattoo?
We recommend daily hydration using Bepanthen Tattoo Cream or organic Shea Butter. Keep the skin supple but avoid over-applying; a thin layer is all you need.
Can I use numbing cream or painkillers during my session?
We advise against using anesthetics. Numbing agents can change the texture and properties of the skin, which can negatively impact the final result—especially for technical styles like micro realism or lettering.
What tattoo styles do you specialise in?
Our international tattoo studio is home to artists specializing in a wide range of modern and traditional styles, including:
Fine Line & Single Needle: Elegant, minimalist designs.
Handpoke (Machine-Free): Traditional stick-and-poke techniques.
Dark Art & Gothic: Bold, atmospheric pieces.

Do you offer walk-in sessions?
